UPLOAD YOUR W-2 AND 1099 FORMS BY JANUARY 31

With the new year just three weeks away, start planning now for the 2025 tax season! Getting organized before tax season begins can save you time and money when you're ready to file.

South Carolina employers and payroll service providers should submit their 2024 W-2 and 1099 forms to the SCDOR by Jan. 31, 2025.

If you file 10 or more W-2 or 1099 forms, remember - you're required to submit them to the SCDOR using MyDORWAY, the SCDOR's free online tax portal.

Last year, more than 21 percent of W-2 forms were filed after the January 31 deadline. However, taxpayers are advised to wait until they receive all W-2 and 1099 forms before filing their Individual Income Tax returns, making it vital for employers to submit these documents to the SCDOR by the deadline.

Ready to submit W-2 and 1099 forms on MyDORWAY?

  • Log into MyDORWAY (MyDORWAY.dor.sc.gov), click the More tab, and select either Upload W-2s or Upload 1099s.
  • Select the submission method that best suits your business:
    • Upload electronic W-2 (or 1099) file is best for employers with many employees and an accounting package with payroll modules that can generate the proper format file.
    • Upload Manual Excel File is best for employers that have up to 30 employees and do not have the ability to generate the proper file format from their accounting package.
  • The SCDOR only accepts the 1099-R, 1099-NEC, and 1099-Misc forms electronically. You must submit other 1099 forms that withheld SC income using a paper form. Be sure to include a WH-1612 form with your submission.
  • Visit dor.sc.gov/w2-upload for more information, including a step-by-step tutorial and file formatting details.

When submitting W-2 and 1099 forms on MyDORWAY, avoid these common mistakes:

  • Don't submit a WH-1612 or paper copies of your W-2 and 1099 forms after filing electronically.
  • Don't use hyphens in the "numeric only" fields for SSNs, FEINs and Withholding account numbers.
  • Only submit 1099 forms that withheld SC income.
  • Remember to include Carriage Return/Line Feeds (CR/LF) in the file. The SCDOR will not accept files without them.
