Today's digest provides helpful and important updates on the following:
Join Sea Otter Savvy and Sonoma County District 5 for 'Sea Otters Were Here: Coastal Ecology Pop-Up' at the Sea otter mural at Doran Beach on Saturday, September 6, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. (sandcastle competition at 11 a.m.)
Explore interactive booths from local science orgs, businesses and community groups including The Marine Mammal Center, Defenders of Wildlife, Kashia Band of Pomo Indians, Bodega Bay Oysters, River Otter Ecology Project and more.
Learn about sea otters, their vital role in healthy ecosystems and why they're still missing from Northern California waters. Get creative at the Sea Otter sandcastle Competition-fun for all ages.
Once numbering in the tens of thousands, sea otters were nearly wiped out by the fur trade. Today, their absence leaves Northern California's coast without this keystone species. By preying on sea urchins, otters help kelp forests and seagrass meadows thrive, supporting a rich web of marine life.
This is a free, family-friendly event. Parking fee is $8 for non-passholders. Come celebrate, learn and play at the coast. Learn more at seaottersavvy.org.
What's in your go bag? Are you ready for the next emergency? Join the Sonoma County Department of Emergency Management and Sonoma County Library for a free, engaging talk on Emergency Preparedness at Windsor Regional Library.
Learn how to protect your family, home and community during earthquakes, wildfires, power outages and more. Whether you're just getting started or need a refresher, you'll leave with the tools and confidence to be ready for anything.

Spring Lake Regional Park's most famous doggie event is back. Starting this Saturday, September 6, bring your pup to the fenced-in lagoon to romp, splash and play off leash every Saturday and Sunday through September (except September 13).
Proceeds benefit the Sonoma County Regional Parks Foundation, supporting more than 50 dog-friendly parks and trails across the county.
Please be aware that the Hudeman Slough Boat Launch facility in Sonoma is closed temporarily for renovation. This important project will improve access and safety for all users and is expected to be completed by spring 2026.
