Six businesses, nonprofits and organizations announced as winners of the 14th annual Macomb Business Awards

Business leaders from across the region today attended the 14th annual Macomb Business Awards, presented by Consumers Energy. Macomb County Executive Mark A. Hackel joined event host Deputy County Executive John Paul Rea and Vicky Rowinski, director of Macomb County Planning and Economic Development, to recognize award winners at The Emerald Theatre. The historical venue helped the event's game show-theme shine, while honorees got to take center stage and receive applause for their innovations and success.

"Macomb County is proud to spotlight businesses and organizations across our community and recognize how they contribute to our local economy and overall quality of life," said Macomb County Executive Mark Hackel. "Our 27 unique municipalities are made better by their contributions. From creating great places for people to work, to offering one-of-a-kind products and experiences, these organizations represent the best of Macomb County We are committed to being a strong business partner and supporting their continued success."

More than 145 organizations were nominated for the 2026 awards. Winners include:

  • Best Place to Work - Brought to you by Macomb/St. Clair Michigan Works!
    GRIT Technologies - Clinton Township
    Founded in 2008, GRIT Technologies provides full-service IT support to clients nationwide through a dedicated team of 40 passionate professionals. With a headquarters in Clinton Township and offices in Grand Rapids and Fort Myers, Florida, GRIT's employees thrive in a collaborative, high-energy culture rooted in integrity, transparency and genuine care. Key company initiatives include profit-sharing, daily free lunches, a dog-friendly office and hybrid work flexibility.     Henry Ford Health serves the Detroit metropolitan area with comprehensive medical services, but through its Macomb and Warren hospitals, the organization is actively fueling the health care talent pipeline by creating clear pathways for career growth and professional development. This includes supporting residents across seven accredited programs and providing more than 120 visiting medical student rotations nationwide. Additionally, Macomb serves as a clinical learning site for Dakota High School students, and it partners with Macomb Community College to provide classroom-to-employment opportunities in high-demand roles. Through these initiatives, Henry Ford Health is not only developing current team members but also preparing local students and community members for meaningful, long-term careers.

    LegaSea Aquarium & The Reptarium - Utica
    Utica's LegaSea Aquarium and The Reptarium has redefined what it means to experience an aquarium and zoo, right here in Macomb County. With a recent 30,000-square-foot expansion, it houses an impressive array of marine life, reptiles and mammals that give every guest the opportunity to connect hands-on with a variety of wildlife, creating unforgettable experiences for visitors of all ages. Beyond education and entertainment, it inspires the next generation of scientists and conservationists, positions the region as a hub for innovative conservation programs and attracts tourism - with more than 1.5 million visitors expected in 2026 alone.
  • Excellence in Manufacturing Award - Brought to you by the Michigan Manufacturing Technology Center (MMTC)
    Synergy Prototype Stamping - Clinton Township
    Based in Clinton Township, Synergy Prototype Stamping provides low-volume and precision metal stamping services with a commitment to innovation and efficiency. This is evident in its response to customer demands for shorter lead times and sustainable production methods - which saw Synergy proactively transform its operations by investing heavily in employee training, advanced automation technologies and lean principles. Through these initiatives, the company has increased production efficiency by 25%, reduced scrap rates by 30%, cut lead times by nearly 40% and improved customer satisfaction scores. This enabled major growth. What started as a one-person operation 14 years ago has now expanded into a business with three shops and 40 employees.
  • Nonprofit of the Year - Brought to you by Advancing Macomb
    Dutton Farm - Sterling Heights
    Dutton Farm is a nonprofit supporting adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Starting as a small, family-led program in 2010, it has grown into a thriving organization serving more than 150 adults with 80 staff who help individuals live lives filled with purpose, inclusion and dignity. In 2024, Dutton expanded into Macomb County, where it now partners with local businesses to organize educational and recreational activities that build confidence, social skills and a true sense of belonging. The organization is also focused on workforce development, with the goal of securing long-term, competitive, integrated employment for its participants that will foster financial independence, strengthen workplaces and contribute to the local economy.
  • Placemaker Award
    City of Mount Clemens and Mount Clemens Downtown Development Authority
    Over the past three years, the City of Mount Clemens and the Mount Clemens Downtown Development Authority have undertaken a focused and highly impactful effort that reenergizes the city's core, strengthens local businesses and restores public confidence in downtown as a destination. Key projects include streetscape improvements, upgraded pedestrian lighting, new landscaping, public art installations, activation of alleys and pocket spaces and the development of new programming and events. Through this creative placemaking, strategic investment and strong community collaboration, the DDA and the city have successfully revitalized the heart of the municipality - building welcoming, vibrant spaces that support both people and commerce.
