What Does "Street Legal" Really Mean in West Jordan?

If you've spotted dirt bikes, ATVs, or 4-wheelers on city streets and wondered if that's allowed - the answer is yes, under certain conditions.

Just like cars and trucks, all-terrain vehicles have operation laws. In Utah, these types of recreational vehicles are street legal as long as:

  • You carry a valid permit
  • You are at least 18 years old, or riding with someone who is
  • The vehicle is insured
  • You follow all traffic laws
  • The vehicle is registered and has license plates
  • They're not driven on interstate highways
  • The road's speed limit is under 50 MPH
  • You are not on a ramp or bridge-structured highway

However, not every vehicle qualifies. Tractors, golf carts, and disability vehicles do not count as street legal.
