Major Renovation Project Begins at Woodward Park

6/13/2025

A significant transformation is underway at one of Tulsa's most iconic green spaces. Tulsa Parks, in partnership with the City of Tulsa Public Works Department, has officially begun a $6.77 million renovation project at the north end of Woodward Park, bringing long-awaited upgrades to the park's infrastructure and natural beauty.

Construction begins this week and is expected to last approximately 12 months.

This major improvement project will include:

  • Replacing an aging stormwater pipe with a larger, more efficient system.
  • Reconstruction of the four lower ponds with new pumping equipment.
  • Re-grading slopes to improve erosion control and support future landscaping.
  • Installation of boulders and native landscaping around staircases and planting beds.
  • Expanded irrigation systems and replanting of trees, shrubs, and flowers.
  • A strong focus on native, resilient landscaping and increased tree cover.

"This project is not just about infrastructure - it's about honoring the park's historic character while preparing it for the future," said Anna America, Director of Tulsa Parks. "We're excited to improve the beauty, function, and sustainability of Woodward Park for generations to come."

The total investment includes:

  • $4.77 million in Improve Our Tulsa (IOT) funding for park improvements, including nearly $1 million in design costs
  • $2 million from the Public Works Department for critical infrastructure updates

The north entrance to the park from E. 21st Street will be closed during construction. Visitors are encouraged to use alternative entrances on S. Rockford Ave. or Peoria Ave.

Tulsa Parks looks forward to welcoming the community back to a greener, stronger, and more beautiful Woodward Park upon the project's completion.
