The problem with one-size-fits-all membership plans

Legal needs don't arrive on a schedule, and they don't look the same from one person to the next. A freelancer might go months without a legal question, then suddenly need a contract reviewed before a big client signs. A small business owner may be dealing with filings, vendor agreements, and the occasional attorney consultation on an ongoing basis. Someone starting a new venture might need help forming an entity, then need very little support again until tax season.

The hard part is that most people don't know how much legal support they'll need until they're already in the middle of needing it, and our prior membership model assumed that everyone had the same level of need. This caused us to either charge members for access they rarely used, or underserve those who needed more than our single plan provided.

That's the problem we set out to fix.

Introducing our tiered membership model

Rocket Lawyer now offers three membership tiers - Standard, Plus, and Pro - each built around a different level of ongoing legal support, so members can choose the one that actually matches how they use Rocket Lawyer to solve their legal matters.

• Standard is built for essential legal needs: creating and signing documents, getting quick answers, and having access to our network of attorneys when a legal matter requires more detailed information - a good fit for freelancers and individuals with occasional legal questions .
• Plus, our most popular plan, adds more frequent attorney access for members who deal with legal matters more regularly, like a growing business managing contracts and compliance.
• Pro is designed for members who want full-service legal protection, with the highest level of attorney access and the broadest access to additional legal services - suited to businesses handling regular filings, compliance work, and frequent attorney consultations.

Every tier includes the core of what members already rely on: unlimited use of our AI tool for legal Q&A, unlimited AI contract reviews, unlimited document creation and e-signatures, and unlimited legal reminders. What changes as members move up the tiers is the level of direct attorney access included, and the number of Premium Legal Add-ons, like business registration support, EIN services, or trademark help, are available.

Every plan includes two direct ways to reach an attorney: Ask an Attorney, for a written answer to a specific question, and Consult an Attorney Live, a real-time conversation with an attorney. Both give members legal information - a clear explanation of the law and their options - rather than advice tailored to their exact situation.

Additionally, every single Rocket Lawyer member has access to retained legal services as a Premium Legal Add-on, where they can chat with an attorney and receive privileged, confidential, legal advice for an affordable fee.

Every plan includes a 7-day free trial, and members can pay monthly or save over 50% by paying annually.

Premium Legal Add-ons, like flat-fee packages and business business filings, sit on top of membership rather than replacing it. Members can access more of them at Plus and Pro, so a business handling regular compliance work has more of that support built into the membership itself.

Members can move to a different tier as their needs change, and are never locked into a single level of support for as long as they're with Rocket Lawyer.

Why we changed our membership plans

This update is a direct response to something we heard consistently from members and prospective members: a single membership didn't always reflect what they actually needed. Some felt they were paying for attorney access they rarely used. Others found themselves needing more consultations or more Premium Legal Add-ons than their plan allowed, and wanted a clearer way to get more support without guessing at what an upgrade would include.

Standard, Plus, and Pro are our answer to that feedback - three clearly defined levels of support, with clearly defined pricing, so members can match their membership to their actual legal needs instead of choosing the closest available option.

What if I'm still on an older Rocket Lawyer plan?

If you joined before this change, you may have signed up under an older plan name (like Rocket Legal+) or at different pricing. You might still see that in your account today, which just means your current plan term hasn't ended yet. Once you're up for renewal, you'll see only Standard, Plus, and Pro. The pricing and inclusions described here, and on our pricing page, are Rocket Lawyer's most up-to-date offerings.

Rocket Lawyer isn't just a place to generate a document when you need one. It's meant to be an ongoing source of legal support. Rocket Lawyer's AI offers instant answers, right alongside Rocket Lawyer's attorney network when you need to talk to someone, and legal services when a matter calls for more than a conversation. Giving members a choice of membership level is part of that: legal protection should scale with how much of it you actually need, not force everyone into the same plan. As we keep learning from how members use Rocket Lawyer, we'll keep refining what each tier includes and how members move between them.
