Weekend Lane and Ramp Closures on I-75/I-85 Connector for Lighting Upgrades
Expect Traffic Delays, Plan Alternate Routes
ATLANTA METRO - Crews for Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) crews will install lane closures on Interstate 75/Interstate 85 (I-75/I-85) "The Downtown Connector" overpass tunnels in Fulton County. Crews will upgrade the existing tunnel lighting to energy efficient LED and repair or replace lighting equipment at 14 key locations throughout metro Atlanta, including the ones listed below: the Connector at Capital Avenue/SR 154/Memorial Drive Overpass Tunnel, the Connector at Ralph McGill Boulevard at Baker Street Overpass Tunnel, and I-85 from I-75 to Lenox Road.

Weather permitting, these are the scheduled overnight and daytime lane and ramp closuresscheduled between 9 p.m. on Friday, June 12 until 5 a.m. on Saturday:

I-20 from Linkwood Drive to I-85 Tunnels
  • Alternating left and right "rolling" lane and shoulder lane closures between Linkwood Drive and Martin Luther King Jr. Drive (exit 248A)
I-75 from I-85 to I-285 Tunnels
  • "Rolling" lane closures on I-75 northbound and southbound HOV lanes at I-285 (exit 238B) and Charles W Grant Parkway Central Avenue (exit 139)
I-75 at Windy Hill Road Tunnel
  • One right lane and right shoulder lane closed on I-75 northbound exit ramp at Windy Hill (exit 260)
I-75 from Musket Ridge to I-285
  • Alternating left or right lane and shoulder lane "rolling" closures on I-75 northbound and southbound between Peachtree Street (exit 249) and Northside Drive (exit 252), and on Deering Road exit and entrance ramps
GDOT is investing $30 million in 14 projects to replace and upgrade the lighting in the overpass tunnels throughout metro Atlanta in preparation for the FIFA World Cup events this summer. All 14 projects are scheduled for completion by the end of May 2026.
