DURANT, Okla. - The campus at Southeastern Oklahoma State University is buzzing with activity as summer camps are underway.
This summer, Southeastern is offering a variety of camps and enrichment programs spanning aviation, athletics, STEM, robotics, and Upward Bound, providing students from across the region with opportunities to learn, explore, and develop new skills.
Among the summer offerings is Southeastern's STEM Academy, which is hosting 23 incoming ninth-grade students from across Oklahoma this week. The camp combines classroom instruction with hands-on experiences, including water rocket launches, robot coding, a field trip for data collection, drone programming and guest speakers throughout the week.
The Take Flight Aviation Camp is also underway this week at Southeastern, providing 24 students in grades seven through 10 with a hands-on introduction to the aviation industry. Participants are taking part in aircraft discovery flights, rocket launches, and classroom sessions focused on drones, airport operations, air traffic control, aerial navigation, and aviation careers. Additionally, they are taking a field trip to FlightSafety International for a tour.
Southeastern Athletics is hosting camps in several sports throughout the summer, including football, basketball, volleyball, baseball, and softball. These camps bring hundreds of young athletes and their families to campus each year while providing instruction from Southeastern coaches and student-athletes.
In addition, Southeastern's Upward Bound programs will welcome more than 150 high school students to campus this summer for academic enrichment, college preparation, and leadership development activities designed to help participants succeed in higher education.
Summer camps and enrichment programs will continue throughout June and July, bringing hundreds of students and visitors to the Southeastern campus.
