Cassidy Seated as Chair of Senate HELP Committee, Announces GOP Members

WASHINGTON - Today, U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-LA) was officially seated as the chair of the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee for the 119th Congress. Cassidy was previously ranking member of the HELP Committee in the 118th Congress.

Cassidy also announced the other Republican members joining him on the committee: U.S. Senators Rand Paul (R-KY), Susan Collins (R-ME), Lisa Murkowski (R-AK), Markwayne Mullin (R-OK), Roger Marshall, M.D. (R-KS), Tommy Tuberville (R-AL), Tim Scott (R-SC), Josh Hawley (R-MO), Jim Banks (R-IN), Mike Crapo (R-ID), and Marsha Blackburn (R-TN).

"It is an honor to lead my fellow Republicans as chair of the HELP Committee," said Dr. Cassidy. "I am excited to work closely with President Trump and my Republican colleagues to implement a pro-America agenda that improves the lives of all families."

As chair, Cassidy will establish the agenda of the HELP Committee in the 119th Congress. As ranking member of the HELP Committee during the 118th Congress, Cassidy led Senate Republicans in opposing the harmful Biden-Harris agenda and promoting policies that help American families:

  • Led a Congressional Review Act (CRA) to overturn the Biden-Harris joint employer rule, which threatens the livelihoods of over nine million American workers employed by a franchise business. The U.S. Senate passed the CRA by a bipartisan vote of 50 to 48.
  • Led a CRA to overturn the Biden-Harris administration's student loan scheme, which would transfer up to $20,000 in student loan debt per borrower onto taxpayers, costing an estimated $300 billion. The U.S. Senate passed the CRA by a bipartisan vote of 52 to 46.
  • Co-led a CRA preventing the Biden-Harris administration from injecting environmental, social, and governance (ESG) ideology into Americans' retirement savings. The U.S. Senate passed the CRA by a bipartisan vote of 50 to 46.
  • Passed multiple bills through Committee to lower prescription drug costs for Americans. This includes the Pharmacy Benefit Manager (PBM) Reform Act, which reforms misaligned incentives for PBMs and ensures 100 percent of drug discounts are passed on to patients. Also led legislation that brings low-cost generic drugs quicker to market, so Americans can access these drugs at an affordable cost.
