Fuel Break Maintenance

Crews are currently working in the Black Canyon neighborhood of San Rafael performing maintenance of existing fuel breaks. Through maintaining fuel breaks the Fire Department is able to help ensure they remain valuable resources for community safety and wildfire resilience. Crews are utilizing chainsaws and forestry saws to cut invasive broom regrowth and hazardous fuels that have accumulated over time. Debris will be lopped and scattered within the maintenance area to Forest Practice Rules standards which ensure biomass will quickly decompose and that ladder fuels are reduced in the event of a fire.
