Cortez Masto Visits Child Care Facility, Discusses Need to Help Families Make Ends Meet

Washington, D.C. - U.S. Senator Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) joined College of Southern Nevada (CSN) President Dr. Stacy Klippenstein, Ed.D., CSN Early Childhood Education Director Mary Regan, and the team at the CSN Early Childhood Education (ECE) Lab Program to discuss the need to help working families make ends meet. Last week, the Senator announced her co-sponsorship of the Stronger Start for Working Families Act, which would provide a tax cut to 3.5 million working families with children by allowing them to begin receiving the Child Tax Credit (CTC) starting with the first dollar they earn.

"Parents shouldn't have to choose between putting food on the table, their medication, or child care," said Senator Cortez Masto. "We need to bring down the cost of child care, while also making sure early childhood educators are trained and paid what they deserve. As we face an affordability crisis, I will continue to fight for all Nevadans to be able to make ends meet."

"We're proud of our nationally accredited Early Childhood Education labs here at CSN," said Dr. Klippenstein. "In addition to providing a high-quality early education experience for children, they also serve as a dynamic training ground for the next generation of educators."

Senator Cortez Masto has consistently supported lowering costs for working families in Nevada. Last year, she introduced the American Families Act to permanently expand the Child Tax Credit and the Tax Cuts for Workers Act to help provide tax relief for individuals without children. The Senator has also supported the Child Care for Working Families Act, comprehensive legislation to help families access quality, affordable child care while also ensuring higher wages for child care workers and providing the funding necessary to offer full-day, full-year Head Start programming.
