On Thursday, Prime Minister Inga RuginienÄ— met with President of the Czech Republic, Petr Pavel, who is in Lithuania on a state visit.
The meeting focused on bilateral relations, strengthening regional security and defence, support for Ukraine, and transatlantic ties.
"Lithuania and the Czech Republic are countries united by shared interests and values. This is reflected in our support for Ukraine, which needs to be continued and stepped up. As Russia will remain a long-term threat to Europe, we must do our utmost to enhance our joint security, defence, and resilience, including against hybrid threats," said Prime Minister RuginienÄ—.
The Prime Minister thanked President Pavel for the Czech Republic's contribution to Baltic security through its participation in NATO's enhanced forward presence battle group in Lithuania-an important example of allies' solidarity and commitment to collective defence. A strong NATO eastern flank, RuginienÄ— emphasised, is a prerequisite for the security of the entire Europe.
The meeting highlighted the need to maintain pressure on Russia, including through sanctions, pointing out that a strong transatlantic partnership among equal European and U.S. partners remains the foundation for collective defence and security.
Other international issues were also touched upon, including support for EU enlargement, bilateral relations, and cooperation prospects in the defence industry.
