Media Alert: Higher Education Committee Heads to Nelson Mandela University for 2026 Readiness Assessment

Parliament, Tuesday, 3 February 2026 - The Portfolio Committee on Higher Education will on Wednesday turn its attention to Nelson Mandela University (NMU), as part of its ongoing oversight programme assessing the state of readiness of post-school education institutions for the 2026 academic year in the Eastern Cape.

The visit forms part of the committee's broader oversight work in the Eastern Cape, aimed at evaluating institutional preparedness, academic planning, student support systems, infrastructure and overall capacity to ensure a stable and successful start to the academic year.

Committee members will engage with university management, students on their key challenges and progress made in strengthening teaching and learning, student accommodation, funding and campus safety.

Time: 09:00 - 17:00
