DOVER, Del. - U.S. Senator Joni Ernst (R-Iowa), a combat veteran who served in the Iowa National Guard and the Global War on Terrorism, today escorted the bodies of Sergeant Edgar Torres-Tovar of Des Moines and Sergeant Nate Howard of Marshalltown as they returned from overseas where they gave their lives in service to our country.
Ernst joined President Donald J. Trump and the Iowa delegation for the dignified transfer of the remains to reunite these Iowa National Guard heroes with their families.

"With a heavy heart, I was honored to escort the bodies of Iowa's finest, Sergeant Edgar Torres-Tovar and Sergeant Nate Howard, back to the United States," said Ernst. "When I heard the tragic news that the Iowa National Guard lost some of our own, I wanted to provide comfort to the families and traveled to visit the wounded. Once back on American soil, these heroes were solemnly welcomed by their commander in chief and our entire Iowa delegation. Now, they are reunited with their loved ones and will be laid to rest in the heartland. As our state and Iowa National Guard community mourn this loss, we continue to pray for the recovery of the wounded and work to preserve these young men's legacies of selfless bravery."
