Fort King National Historic Landmark to Host 'Phantoms in the Fort'

OCALA, Fla. (Oct. 10, 2025) - The City of Ocala Recreation and Parks Department, in partnership with the Marion County Library System, will host Phantoms in the Fort on Saturday, Oct. 18, from 5 to 10 p.m. at Fort King National Historic Landmark, 3925 E. Fort King St.

This free, family-friendly event will feature a variety of activities beginning at 5 p.m., including hands-on archaeology demonstrations, outdoors games, educational exhibits, food trucks, and live bluegrass music by The Sandy Back Porch Band.

As the sun sets, guests are invited to take a lantern-lit stroll through the historic grounds. From 7 to 9 p.m., Marion County Library storytellers will share spooky tales inside the fort; and as the night grows darker, the stories grow spookier.

Attendees are encouraged to bring canned food donations to support local food pantries. Guests who donate at least five items will receive a free spider or bat face-painted stencil.

Seating is limited; visitors are welcome to bring their own chairs or blankets. Parking will be available at the Kline Lot on NE 41stAvenue, with digital signage along E. Fort King Street to assist with directions.

In preparation for the event, Fort King National Historic Landmark will close to the public at 2 p.m. on Oct. 18.
