Notice of End of Targeted Scoping Efforts For Haines State Forest RMA Management Plan

End of Targeted Scoping Efforts Related to Haines State Forest Resource Management Area Management Plan Amendment.

Background
The Haines State Forest (HSF) Resource Management Area (RMA) Management Plan (MP) is currently undergoing amendment. Since May 2024, the Division of Forestry & Fire Protection (DFFP) has been in the Scoping Period of the planning process, a research phase intended to collect information about the local area through a series of public meetings, information sharing online, focused discussions with interest groups, and opportunities for public comment. The DFFP will close targeted scoping efforts, such as scheduling new public scoping meetings and focused discussion groups, on March 3, 2026. The DFFP will continue to accept comments as we pivot our attention from in-person and virtual public engagement events to review of the feedback received during Scoping and preparation of the draft management plan for public review.

Interested groups or individuals may continue to submit written comments by email to [email protected] or by mail to

Next Steps
The DFFP will take several weeks to review the feedback that has been submitted during the Scoping Period and prepare the draft plan for review. The Public Review Draft of the management plan will be made available for review and comment during the Public Review Period, which will be announced via State of Alaska Online Public Notice System. Additional public meetings will be scheduled during the Public Review Period, and the dates and locations of these meetings will be announced at the start of the Public Review Period.

For more information or to see records from virtual public meetings and focused discussion groups that were held during the scoping meeting, visit the project website at https://forestry.alaska.gov/HSFamendment/.
