'Game changing moment' as national tech firm makes Wigan its new HQ

A technology firm that works alongside more than 120 councils has relocated its headquarters to Wigan, in what has been described as a "game changing moment".

Founded in 1998, Agilisys is a digital services and AI software company, focused on helping local government take advantage of technology to transform and modernise operations, maximise efficiency, and deliver high-quality services for staff and residents.

With a workforce of more than 300 specialists, Agilisys is the trusted digital partner of local authorities across the UK, and after almost three decades in the capital, the firm has decided to move its main base of operations to the repurposed Civic building in Wigan town centre.

Councillor Nazia Rehman, portfolio holder for Finance, Resources, and Transformation, said "As Wigan Council is looking to be at the forefront of advances in digital and AI technologies, the relocation of Agilisys is a game-changing moment as it highlights the type of innovative and forward-thinking companies that want to come and work here.

"The move is not only a massive display of confidence in our borough and digital ambitions, it also signals significant employment, skills, and development opportunities for our workers and young people, as well as benefits for our public services and local businesses.

"Following the impressive revival of the old Civic building, which encouraged Agilisys to relocate their operations, this is an exciting sign of things to come with various other regeneration projects in the pipeline across the town centre."

With Agilisys already having a presence in Wigan over the past decade, the firm has provided a range of efficient and reliable IT services to ensure that the local authority's operations run smoothly without disruption.

Designed to meet the demands of large workforces, Agilisys also helps councils to turn data into actionable insights, deliver complex and secure programmes, and plan, design, and implement digital transformation initiatives.

More recently, the company has also developed innovative AI software which has helped to reduce workloads and administration burdens, streamline processes, and deliver better results for staff, partners, and residents.

In total, Agilisys has supported millions of residents across the country with digital services, and helped to save UK councils more than £10m with its AI software.

Agilisys' relocation highlights the firm's confidence in Wigan Council's digital ambitions and will help its workforce further support council staff and residents in the borough and beyond.

Agilisys CEO, Nigel Muirhead, said "I'm delighted that we're relocating our head office to Wigan.

"We have a long-standing presence in Wigan, Greater Manchester and the north west, and we see this as one of the most innovative regions in the country to be located in, with access to great people and ambitious public sector organisations like Wigan that want to truly transform how they deliver services."

Charles Mindenhall, Founder of Agilisys, added: "Agilisys has been working in Wigan for the past ten years, and now we feel it is the perfect time to move our national HQ from London up to the north west and into Wigan.

"With digital and AI technologies helping to transform services, it's an incredibly exciting time for the council and Agilisys, and we're really looking forward to continue our great work in this impressively repurposed Civic building.

"This move will help us continue to grow and deliver for residents not just in Wigan Borough, but across the country as well."
