Fatal Motor Vehicle Collision

On Monday, October 21, 2024 at approximately 5:50 a.m., a motor vehicle collision occurred fronting 1301 South Kihei Road, just north of East Lipoa Street in Kihei. Preliminary investigation reveals that a 71 year-old-male pedestrian was crossing South Kihei Road outside of a marked crosswalk when a vehicle traveling north on South Kihei Road collided into the pedestrian. The operator of the vehicle immediately stopped after the collision and remained on scene.

Medics transported the pedestrian to the Maui Memorial Medical Center in critical life-threatening condition where the pedestrian eventually succumbed to injuries.

The involvement of speed, drugs and alcohol has not been determined as the investigation is still pending.

This is Maui County's thirteenth (13) fatality this year, as compared to sixteen (16) at the same time last year.
