The Campus Operations teams have been busy over the summer to get campus ready for the 2026-27 school year.
There are a few ongoing projects that may impact faculty, staff and students' movements across campus; each one addressing important services and features, and when completed, will be a significant improvement to the campus experience.
The work to replace steam tunnels continues on the Quad, as indicated by blue fencing that funnels pedestrians through a circuitous route from Albertsons Library to the Mathematics Building. Patience is appreciated as workers replace this crucial network of pipes that deliver steam and chilled water to heat and cool buildings across campus. This is a once-in-a-generation investment into a more efficient, functional and safe campus for many years to come. (Expected completion November 2027)
A much needed update to the Greenbelt is actively under construction. Crews are working hard to complete the section from Theatre Lane to the Broadway Bridge by Labor Day Weekend - Sept. 4, 2026. When complete, it will mirror the more modern section from Theatre Lane to Capitol Blvd, with landscape separation between the Greenbelt and Friendship Lane, new and wider concrete, and an overall safer corridor along the north side of campus.
Work is underway to install a mobility hub near the Hemingway Building, which will provide much needed parking and charging location for electric mobility devices used by students, faculty and staff. (Target completion Sept. 18, 2026)
Elevators in the Education Building will be undergoing much needed repairs. The Architectural and Engineering Design Services team will oversee a phased repair/refurbishment project beginning Sept. 17, 2026, and continuing through May 2027. Contractors will take elevators offline one at a time to preserve vertical access throughout the project. Once complete, all three elevators will be significantly more reliable for years to come.
Boise State's Campus Planning and Transportation and Parking teams partnered with ACHD to evaluate pedestrian safety along University Drive between Lincoln and Denver Avenue, where several pedestrian accidents and near misses have occurred. As a result, the teams determined that too many crosswalks along this route was problematic. The solution was to remove one of the crosswalks at Bronco Circle and University Drive and emphasize the remaining crossings with white delineators, which provides a safer space for pedestrians to enter the roadway. (Project complete)
