ARRESTS MADE IN MURDER CASE

SUNNYVALE, California - On Thursday, June 8, 2017, at approximately 2:01 a.m., Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety (SDPS) Officers responded to a reported shooting at an establishment in the 900 block of E. Duane Ave. Upon arrival, officers located two adult male victims who had been shot. Despite life-saving measures, one victim was pronounced deceased at the scene. The second victim was also treated at the scene and was transported by ambulance to a local hospital , where he survived his injuries.

After an extensive investigation, the case went cold. In 2024, with the assistance of the Santa Clara County District Attorney's Office, SDPS detectives identified the suspects involved in the case. On January 9 and 10, 2025, a coordinated multi-agency operation led to the apprehension of Vicente Aguilera-Chavez and Agustin Sandoval by the SDPS SWAT team. Both suspects were arrested and booked into the Santa Clara County Jail for murder.

We extend our sincere appreciation to the Stockton and East Palo Alto Police Departments, the San Joaquin County Sheriff's, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the Santa Clara County District Attorney's Office Cold Case Unit and Gang Team, for their assistance.

This investigation is ongoing and anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to
contact Detective M. Hutchison at (408) 730-7110.
