The Beacom College of Computer & Cyber Sciences at DSU will now offer a Master of Science in Cyber Operations. This new graduate program aims to address the increasing national demand for highly skilled cybersecurity professionals.
"Currently, we offer full programs in Cyber Operations at the bachelor's and doctoral levels, but only a specialization at the master's level," said Dr. Rebecca Hoey, Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs., "Following feedback from industry partners, students, and alumni, we've developed a full master's degree to meet the needs of our stakeholders."
The MSCO program is grounded in applied cybersecurity research within the field of computer science, equipping students for positions in intelligence, defense, law enforcement, and infrastructure protection. The curriculum focuses on skills such as reverse engineering, malware analysis, and penetration testing, and engaging research projects in collaboration with government, military, and commercial partners.
"We know this new offering, which will delve more deeply into specialized skills, will make graduates a particular asset to government agencies, critical infrastructure industries, and the private sector," said Hoey.
The program is designed for both current students and working professionals, including government employees and contractors who are seeking specialized expertise in cyber operations. In support of South Dakota's goal to excel in cybersecurity education and workforce development, this program provides a well-rounded foundation in computing along with specialized training.
DSU is among just ten universities in the country to receive all three Center of Academic Excellence designations from the National Security Agency (NSA). With the launch of the master's in cyber operations, DSU continues to strengthen its role and commitment to excellence in cybersecurity education and research.
