Equality California Congratulates Scott Wiener on Advancing to General Election as the Top Vote-Getter in California’s 11th Congressional District

SAN FRANCISCO - Equality California, the nation's largest statewide LGBTQ+ civil rights organization, congratulates California State Senator Scott Wiener on his decisive victory in California's 11th Congressional District primary election and advancing to the November 3 general election.

"For nearly a decade in the California Legislature, Scott Wiener has been one of the nation's most effective champions for LGBTQ+ people, leading the fight to expand civil rights, protect vulnerable communities, and defend fundamental freedoms. We are proud to congratulate him on his decisive first place victory in today's primary election," said Tony Hoang, Executive Director of Equality California. "Tonight's results reflect voters' confidence in a proven leader who has spent his career delivering results for San Francisco and standing up for equality."

Throughout his time in the California Legislature, Wiener has authored landmark legislation to protect LGBTQ+ people, combat discrimination, improve access to healthcare, and strengthen California's role as a refuge for people under attack by extremist politicians in other states. As one of the most visible and effective LGBTQ+ leaders in the country, he has consistently fought to ensure every person can live openly, safely, and authentically.

"Scott understands that public service is about improving people's lives and protecting the communities that need it most," Hoang continued. In the final weeks of the campaign, Equality California Votes - an independent federal super PAC aligned with the nation's largest statewide LGBTQ+ civil rights organization - launched a six-figure connected TV and digital independent expenditure campaign supporting Wiener, building on a decade-long partnership and prior investments totaling approximately $1.5 million in support of his successful 2016 State Senate campaign.

The race for California's 11th Congressional District follows the retirement of Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi and represents a critical opportunity to send a strong pro-equality voice to Washington, D.C. Equality California proudly endorsed Wiener in December 2025.
