Today, Congresswoman Janelle Bynum (OR-05) released the following statement on President Donald Trump's decision to strike Iran without Congressional authorization:
"Last night's strikes on Iran are deeply concerning to me. In a clear violation of his Constitutional authority, the President took our country one step closer to war in the Middle East, endangering the lives of our servicemembers and reportedly bombing a girls' elementary school in the process. That's wrong and illegal.
"There's no confusion that Iran's regime is a bad actor in the Middle East, sponsoring terror against the U.S. and repressing their own people, but the answer is not another endless war. Congress must vote on a War Powers resolution immediately to restrict military action in Iran without Congressional approval. In the meantime, I'm praying for the safety of our servicemembers and all of our allies who are being targeted by Iran in retaliation."
