Sentara, Aetna increase provider options for Medicare Advantage, Medicaid members

The new agreement connects Aetna's Virginia members to Sentara's full network of hospitals, providers, and care sites, starting Jan. 1, 2027
Sentara Health's Acute and Ambulatory Divisions have announced an expanded partnership with Aetna to provide access to Sentara Health's high-quality providers for more Virginians, including members of Aetna Medicare Advantage and Aetna Better Health of Virginia health plans in the Hampton Roads, Southwest Virginia, and Northern Virginia regions.

The agreement allows Aetna Medicare Advantage and Aetna Better Health of Virginia Medicaid members full access to Sentara care providers, hospitals, and sites of care across the entire system. Sentara is also in-network for Aetna commercial members.

The new agreement will take effect on January 1, 2027.

"We are pleased to expand this partnership with Aetna Better Health of Virginia and Aetna Medicare to expand access to care for Medicaid and Medicare Advantage members across Virginia," said Rachelle Capps, Sentara's Vice President for Managed Care Contracting.

"As a healthcare partner to our communities, we recognize the importance of working collaboratively with payors to ensure patients can access the services they need. This agreement represents an important step in supporting access and filling insurance coverage gaps in the region for high-quality care for individuals and families," said Capps.

The two companies are aligned in their approach to filling the needs of communities across Virginia and are committed to providing access to quality care with this expansion.

"Across Aetna's Medicaid and Medicare programs in Virginia, we're committed to ensuring members have access to high-quality care from providers they know and trust," said Corey Pleasants, CEO of Aetna Better Health of Virginia. "Expanding access to Sentara's network gives our members greater choice and helps us deliver a more connected health care experience for the communities we serve across Virginia."
