Capito Joins Fox’s “Sunday Morning Futures”

CHARLESTON, W.Va. - Today, U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.), Chairman of the Republican Policy Committee (RPC), joined Fox News Channel's "Sunday Morning Futures."

HIGHLIGHTS:

ON THE CLARITY ACT: "Well, I think it's so important that we set the parameters of our digital assets so that we can not only be assured that the dark money, the drug money, the cartel money that flows through a lot of these currencies is held in check and held accountable. There's a lot of loose ends that still need to be tied up. I'm very hopeful for Tuesday, and I want to thank Senator Lummis, she's been such a champion here for all of us, and she's working hard. She's already put 100 revisions into the bill. This is a must do, I think, for the future, and I'm certainly a supporter, hoping that the changes that we can make will bring us over the finish line."

ON THE PROTECT COLLEGE SPORTS ACT: "Well, here we are in the second week. We just finished Saturday, lots of exciting games in college football, but it brings to mind that a lot of our college athletes, we want to protect our college athletes, but the whole system with NIL and the payment systems, it's just run amok. It's just out of control. We see pros wanting to come back and play on the collegiate scene. Some collegiate players making more than the pros, and transferring every year. So, the bill that we put forward under the leadership of Senator Cruz and Senator Cantwell really, I think, effectively answers a lot of the questions. It tightens down on the portal. It answers the question of whether each state could have one rule or another. It protects women in college sports, which is where I have been particularly interested in. It also makes sure you can't create a super league, so that it would cut out states like mine that have Marshall and WVU, who are very competitive, and I think it really answers a lot in terms of protecting our athletes, not just health-wise, but also agents from preying on these athletes without really the financial literacy knowledge to know what they're what they're stepping into."

ON ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE: "Well, I think we see the speed which with AI is moving, and it's like something we've never seen before. I've heard it equated to the beginning of the internet times 100,000 times faster than that, if you can imagine. And so, I think we have to be careful because anytime you get something that's really good, it can have really detrimental effects at the same time. I would listen to those CEOs. It's very rare that CEOs of companies, particularly ones that are growing and are becoming much larger and financially successful, many times they are not coming to Congress and asking us to regulate. And the fact that they want to slow, I think, is a good thing. They can control the technologies, but as we know, we're in a race for international superiority here. And what the president is saying, we can't slow so that we get passed over because then we lose that race for the superiority in an area that's going to really carry us for the next decades. I think we can look at it."
