BECKLEY, W.Va. - Beckley ARH Hospital is pleased to welcome orthopedic surgeon Dr. Vivek Neginhal to its team of providers.
Neginhal most recently worked as an orthopedic consultant for WVU Medicine in Hurricane, performing joint replacements at the WVU Medicine Thomas Orthopedic Hospital in Charleston. Prior to that, Neginhal spent 17 years at St. Mary's Medical Center in Huntington, where he served as the founding director of the hospital's regional joint replacement center.
Beckley ARH CEO Todd Howell said he believes Neginhal, a nationally recognized surgeon in ACL total knee replacements and robotic knee replacements, is the perfect addition to the hospital's surgical team.
"Dr. Neginhal brings more than two decades of experience as a highly successful orthopedic surgeon," he said. "We are incredibly fortunate to welcome him to our team and know that his expertise and work ethic will help us in our mission of providing high-quality health care to the resident of southern West Virginia.
Prior to moving to West Virginia in 2006, Neginhal completed fellowships in Joint Replacement at the University of Chicago Hospital and Lenox Hill Hospital in New York, as well as a fellowship in traumatology at the Baylor College of Medicine in Texas.
Neginhal, a native of India, said he was drawn to medicine as a child, when he first realized there was nothing more important than a person's health. The decision to go into orthopedics came when he discovered his work as a doctor could immediately improve a patient's life.
"Orthopedics is a field that uniquely combines surgical precision, problem-solving, and the ability to make a tangible, life-changing impact," he said. "There is no greater reward than alleviating someone's pain and helping them return to an active, independent life.
"It's incredibly fulfilling to see patients who once came into my office barely able to walk, later leave with a renewed sense of mobility and hope."
Neginhal said he chose to join the staff at Beckley ARH based on the "hospital's collaborative culture and commitment to patient-centered care."
"ARH's investment in cutting-edge technology including anterior hip replacements, as well as its willingness to invest in robotic technology and enhanced recovery protocols demonstrates a forward-thinking approach that not only improves outcomes but also prioritizes patient comfort and safety," he said. "Patients can enjoy advanced surgery options with decreased recovery times and exceptional results, right here in Beckley.
"I believe this is not just a place to practice medicine, but rather a place where I can grow as a surgeon, contribute to a mission I believe in and be part of a team that's passionate about making lives better every single day."

Neginhal and his wife Sapna are the parents of three sons; Sunjit, a medical student at Ohio State; Ajay, a graduate of Duke University now working for Moderna in Boston; and Kethan, who will study pre-law in the fall as a UNC/Duke Robertson Scholar.
In his free time, Neginhal enjoys traveling, hiking, fishing, painting landscapes, car rallying, and playing ping pong and tennis.

About Appalachian Regional Healthcare (ARH)
Appalachian Regional Healthcare (ARH) traces its roots back to 1955, when the United Mine Workers of America opened the Miners Memorial Hospital system - a network of 10 hospitals dedicated to providing care throughout the coalfields of eastern Kentucky and southern West Virginia. Seventy years later, ARH has grown into a 14-hospital not-for-profit health system that serves more than 500,000 residents of central Appalachia each year. ARH hospitals in Barbourville, Harlan, Hazard, Hyden, Martin, McDowell, Middlesboro, Paintsville, Prestonsburg, West Liberty, Whitesburg, and South Williamson in Kentucky, and Beckley and Hinton in West Virginia, ensure that residents, tucked away in even the most remote areas, can access the highest quality of care without traveling hours from home. ARH's hospitals, clinics, multi-specialty physician practices, home health agencies, home medical equipment stores, retail pharmacies, and medical spas boast more than 6,700 employees with a network of more than 1,300 providers, making it the single largest employer in southeastern Kentucky and the third-largest private employer in southern West Virginia.
