New Risk Reduction Refund Program Webpage

The San Rafael Fire Department is excited to announce our new "Wildfire Risk Reduction Refund Program" webpage is now live. Our existing grant program has been rebranded to a "refund" program to emphasis our efforts in refunding residents who are working on home hardening projects to protect their home from wildfire. The revamped webpage and updated grant program aims to provide more streamlined information for residents, as well as improved clarity regarding program requirements and guidelines.

Additionally, we have added a new "Zone Zero Complete" refund program to support residents creating defensible space on their property. We also have a "Quick Fix" program available for residents doing smaller projects to protect their property, a "Garage Door Battery Backup" program to ensure residents are able to open their garage when power goes out, and a "Wood Shake Roof Replacement" program to support residents replacing their roofs with less combustible materials.

We have also included a list of contractors that other residents have used to resolve home hardening issues or vegetation hazards in the past. We do not endorse specific contractors, but provide this list as a tool for residents doing research on potential contractors they'd like to use.

Our Direct Assistance Program is available for anyone who cannot afford to complete work on their own before applying for a refund.

If you'd like to apply for a refund, you must have completed a wildfire evaluation with our team in the last 365 days. You can book an evaluation here.
