Tuscaloosa, AL - This July, Tuscaloosa Water invites residents and visitors to celebrate National Lakes Appreciation Month by exploring the natural beauty and recreational opportunities found at Lake Tuscaloosa, Lake Nicol and Harris Lake.
"Our lakes are some of Tuscaloosa's greatest treasures, and National Lakes Appreciation Month is an opportunity for our community to experience everything they have to offer," said Mark Thomas, lakes division manager. "Whether you're fishing, paddling, hiking or simply spending time with family on the water, we hope these events encourage people to enjoy our lakes and appreciate the important role they play in our daily lives."
To celebrate, Tuscaloosa Water has planned a month of free activities encouraging citizens to explore all three lakes and discover new ways to enjoy them.
Free Parking at Sharpes and Rock Quarry - July 3-5
Free boat launch access at Sharpes Landing and Rock Quarry Landing.

Lake Nicol Paddle Fest - July 18
Lake Nicol Paddle Fest, in partnership with Tuscaloosa Paddleboards and Mountain High Outfitters, is a free community event celebrating paddling on Saturday, July 18. This event is open to paddleboarders and kayakers of all skill levels. Participants can choose between a timed 3-mile paddle race or a relaxed fun float through the scenic waters of Lake Nicol. Complimentary paddleboard rentals will be available in limited quantities. Spectators can watch from the Outer Cliff Trail. For more information and race registration, click here.
Tuscaloosa Lakes Bingo Challenge - Throughout July
The Tuscaloosa Lakes Bingo Challenge encourages participants to visit and enjoy Tuscaloosa's lakes with common lake activities and hobbies. Once participants complete their card, bring it to the Lakes Division (3650 Lake Nicol Road; open Monday-Friday 7 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.) to receive a Tuscaloosa Water rubber duck. Lakes Photo Contest - Ends July 31 at noon
Submit your favorite photos of Lake Tuscaloosa, Lake Nicol or Harris Lake in the Tuscaloosa Lakes Photo Contest. The winning photo will be selected based on overall quality and creativity. Participants may enter the contest by posting an original photo of a Tuscaloosa lake to Facebook or Instagram using the hashtag #TuscaloosaLakes. The winning photo will be featured on the City of Tuscaloosa's social media channels, and the winner will receive a gift card to Southern Ale House Dockside, which can be picked up at the Lakes Division (3650 Lake Nicol Road; open Monday-Friday 7 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.).
