The Linn County Planning & Zoning Commission is rescheduling its next discussion of proposed zoning regulations for nuclear energy generation and nuclear waste storage facilities in Linn County. The commission originally planned to review the draft regulations during its June meeting but will move that discussion to its meeting on July 21 at 6 p.m. to allow staff more time to prepare the draft zoning code. There will be opportunities for public comment during this meeting. This will be the second public discussion of a draft zoning code that would establish local standards for reviewing land use proposals involving nuclear power or waste storage. The Planning & Zoning Commission will make a recommendation to the Board of Supervisors at the July meeting or at a future meeting.
The proposed zoning code will outline application requirements and review procedures, with a focus on reviewing local economic impacts and requiring a host community agreement to help offset any costs incurred by Linn County.
