Glacier National Park Provides Updates On the 2026 Shuttle System and Logan Pass Parking

WEST GLACIER, Mont. - Glacier National Park today announced that shuttle service and three-hour time limit for parking at Logan Pass will end for the season. Parking at Logan Pass will return to first-come, first-served availability, allowing the public to park without a time limit until the alpine section of Going-to-the-Sun Road closes for the winter season.

The Logan Pass Shuttle and Timed Parking at Logan Pass were new programs piloted for the first time in 2026. The program improved public access to Logan Pass by increasing vehicle turnover throughout the day compared to previous years, allowing more people touring Going-to-the-Sun Road to reliably park at Logan Pass to access visitor services, facilities and trails.

"On most days we issued 1,200-1,300 free permits from onsite kiosks for three-hour parking at Logan Pass," said Glacier National Park Superintendent Dave Roemer. "By utilizing stand-by access, we filled seats that were available and provided service to Logan Pass that maximized ridership. This new reservation program significantly reduced wait times at boarding and pickup locations compared to previous years."

Logan Pass has 235 parking spaces and issued 1,200 - 1,300 free permits from onsite kiosks for three-hour parking. Available data suggests there was significant turn over and more visitors were able to access and use this parking area during their visit. During peak hours, about 100 permits were issued per hour, meaning parking spaces were regularly freed up and taken by new visitors throughout the day.

The redesigned shuttle service offered visitors reservable early morning shuttles, beginning at 6 a.m., to facilitate longer day-use itineraries, like hiking the Highland Trail, from Logan Pass.

The park continues to refine transportation and access for visitors while safeguarding park resources.

Logan Pass Visitor Center seasonal updates:

• The visitor center will be open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. through Sept. 13.

• Reduced hours will begin on Sept. 13 and be open from 9 a.m. through 4 p.m.

• The visitor center will close for the season after Sept. 27.

• Water at Logan Pass will be turned off for the season on September 8, 2026. Visitors should be prepared and bring their own potable water, as bottled water is not available to purchase at the visitor center.
