Singer Bill Protecting Telehealth Costs for Patients Signed Into Law

Legislation sponsored by Senator Bob Singer (R-Monmouth, Ocean) extending protections to ensure patients pay no more out of pocket for a telehealth visit than they would for an in-person appointment was signed into law.

Now law, S-3947/A-4357, extends the current requirement that health insurance companies reimburse telehealth visits at the same rate as in-person care through December 31, 2027. Without this extension, the requirement was set to expire today.

The bill covers private insurance plans, Medicaid, NJ FamilyCare, and State employee health plans.

"This extension will provide peace of mind for patients and healthcare providers to continue using telehealth without worrying about higher costs," said Senator Singer. "Telehealth has become an essential part of our healthcare system, and by preserving payment parity, we're protecting access to convenient, high-quality care for New Jersey families."
