NEWS: Sen. Schiff Delivers $5.3 Million in Federal Funding for Kern County, Part of $254 Million Secured for California

Schiff secures federal funding for investments in infrastructure, job training, and health care projects in Kern County

Bakersfield, CA - Today, U.S. Senator Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) is announcing he secured $5.3 million in federal funding for critical Kern County projects that will improve critical infrastructure, enhance workforce readiness programs, and expand rural mental health care services. The funding is part of the $254,457,366 in total federal funding Schiff delivered for California for the 2026 fiscal year, with the passage of recent funding bills.

"I'm proud to have fought for and delivered millions in federal investments to Kern County in my first year in the U.S. Senate," said Senator Schiff. "This critical funding will allow projects in communities big and small to break ground and get to the last mile, and it delivers on key California priorities including necessary investments in infrastructure, health care, and job training. These investments would not be possible without the partnership of my colleague Senator Alex Padilla, our colleagues in the House, and community leaders who helped ensure that California receives the resources it deserves."

Senator Schiff fought for and delivered on the following key projects to directly invest in Kern County communities, including:

  • $2.5 million to the 7th Standard Road Roundabout Project to improve traffic flow and safety by installing a roundabout at a key intersection in Shafter
  • $1.8 million to Ridgecrest Regional Hospital to enhance rural mental health care services and provide comprehensive local behavioral health resource to address critical gaps in mental and geriatric psychiatric care
  • $1 million to enable the Boys & Girls Club of Kern County to increase access to workforce programming and serve more teens with a dedicated teen space
