The City of Montgomery Parks and Recreation Department will host a ribbon cutting for the newly renovated Therapeutic Recreation Center (TRC) on Thursday, April 2, at 11 a.m. at 604 Augusta Ave. A brief tour will follow the ceremony.
Led by Director Wendy Dobbs, the TRC recently underwent major upgrades to enhance accessibility and create a more engaging environment for individuals of all abilities. Improvements include a new roof, new flooring, a brand new family restroom, updated furniture and lockers, new pool fans for the indoor pool, and modernized kitchen appliances.
"The ribbon cutting and reopening for the renovated Therapeutic Recreation Center marks a proud moment for our city and for the City of Montgomery Parks and Recreation Department. The Therapeutic Recreation Center represents our commitment to ensuring that every resident-regardless of ability-has access to spaces that support wellness, connection, and joy. This facility is more than a building; it's a promise that inclusion will always be at the heart of our mission. We look forward to the countless lives that will be enriched here for years to come."
- Brandon Dean, Director of Parks and Recreation
The 26,000-square-foot facility features a gymnasium, indoor pool, fitness and game rooms, meeting areas, a kitchen, a greenhouse, a patio, and an accessible playground. TRC offers weekday programs for community members of all ages, including adaptive sports, arts and crafts, cooking lessons, music classes, and signature events like the Spring Prom and Special Olympics activities.
