The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point will honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. at a free, public commemorative event on Tuesday, Jan. 27.
"One Better World" will be held from 4:30-6 p.m. in the Alumni Room of the Dreyfus University Center, 1015 Reserve St., Stevens Point. The doors will open at 4 p.m. Refreshments will be served.
The guest speaker, author and lecturer Vernon Wall, is the president and founder of One Better World LLC, a consulting firm specializing in assisting universities and organizations on inclusive excellence, and the chief of staff for LeaderShape, Inc.
Wall has 35 years of professional student affairs experience at Iowa State University, the University of Georgia and at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and at Chapel Hill. He assisted with two semesters at sea and is the past president of ACPA-College Student Educators International.
He is a founding faculty member of the Social Justice Training Institute and has been a trainer at the Marthin Luther King Center for Non-Violent Social Change in Atlanta, Ga. Wall has written numerous articles and co-edited two books the encourage communities where everyone can succeed. His contributions to student life have led to selection as a ACPA Diamond Honoree in 2000 and National Administration of Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA) Pillar of the Profession in 2015.
He resides in Washington D.C. and holds degrees from North Carolina State University and Indiana University.
