TROY, N.C.- As part of National Rural Health Day, FirstHealth Montgomery Memorial Hospital today announced it has earned a 2025 Performance Leadership Award for excellence in quality.
Compiled by The Chartis Center for Rural Health, the Performance Leadership Awards program recognizes top quartile performance (i.e., 75th percentile or above) among rural hospitals in quality, outcomes and/or patient perspective.
"We are honored to once again receive the Performance Leadership Award for quality excellence, a recognition of our team's unwavering commitment to excellence in rural health care," said Kerry Herbine, FACHE, president of Montgomery Memorial Hospital.
"As we look ahead, the recently announced plans to build a replacement hospital for Montgomery Memorial underscores our shared vision-a new facility designed to better serve the community's needs with modern, compassionate care. This milestone, aligned with FirstHealth's investment in rural health care, reaffirms our promise to be there for the Montgomery County community."
Herbine added, "I'm incredibly proud of our dedicated team of health care professionals who work tirelessly to fulfill our core purpose, To Care for People."
The Performance Leadership Awards program is based on the results of the Chartis Rural Hospital Performance INDEX®, a comprehensive and objective framework for assessing how rural hospitals are performing. INDEX benchmarks are relied upon by rural hospitals, health systems with rural footprints, hospital associations and state offices of rural health to measure performance across multiple areas impacting hospital operations and finance.
"The areas of quality, outcomes and patient perspective are cornerstones of health care delivery across rural America, and this year's Performance Leadership Award recipients are establishing a standard of excellence for their rural peers to follow," said Michael Topchik, Executive Director, Chartis Center for Rural Health.
"We are delighted to shine a spotlight on such strong performance and honor the achievement of these hospitals on National Rural Health Day."
