The State University of New York at Stony Brook will celebrate Inauguration Week from April 11-19 with a series of events highlighting the university's leadership as a top-tier R1 research institution advancing innovation, discovery and public impact across New York state and around the globe.
The weeklong program will bring together faculty, students, industry partners, and policymakers to showcase the breadth of Stony Brook's work in areas ranging from artificial intelligence and quantum science to clean energy, biomedical technology and entrepreneurship.
Centered on the investiture of Stony Brook University's seventh president, Andrea Goldsmith,the week reflects a defining institutional priority: accelerating research excellence while strengthening the connections between academia, industry and society.
Stony Brook's Research and Development Park is home to major innovation hubs including the Center of Excellence in Wireless and Information Technology (CEWIT) and the Advanced Energy Research and Technology Center (AERTC).Goldsmith brings to the presidency a distinguished career as a researcher, entrepreneur and educator whose work has helped shape modern wireless communications, including serving as principal investigator or co-principal investigator on more than $70 million in sponsored research.
"Inauguration Week is a moment for us as a university community to join together across disciplines, roles and campuses, and for our guests - in person or joining via livestream- to experience the breadth and impact of Stony Brook in real time," said Goldsmith. "This week is about all of us, infinite possibilities for Stony Brook's future, and how we will build that future together."

The Engine Behind Applied Discovery
Under Goldsmith's leadership, Stony Brook continues to expand its research enterprise and global impact. The university supports more than 1,000 research faculty and a broad portfolio of activity that includes more than 2,000 sponsored awards and over 2,800 invention disclosures. Stony Brook researchers have contributed to more than 2,000 world-wide patents, generating $60.4 million in royalty income since 2015 and approximately $280 million overall.
