Celebrating 250 years together

In 2026, our nation celebrates an extraordinary milestone: 250 years since the signing of the Declaration of Independence. It is a unique opportunity to celebrate our history, reflect on the tremendous growth as a nation, and remember that we are still writing the American story - including right here in Gresham.

Our country has never been perfect. But for 250 years, generation after generation of Americans has worked to make it better. Often, that work begins closer to home, in communities like ours, where people serve, volunteer, help their neighbors, support local businesses, speak up, listen to each other, and vote.

This fall, as we enter another election season, we have an opportunity to practice those responsibilities again.

Elections can highlight our differences, but they also remind us of something we share: the remarkable privilege of having a voice in the future of our community and our country. We may disagree about candidates and issues, but when the election is over, we are still Gresham neighbors.

As we celebrate America's 250th birthday, I hope we share pride in our past, gratitude for the freedoms we enjoy today, and responsibility for what comes next.
