New Brunswick Dignity Center Reaches Milestone, Serving 1,000 Guests
NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ (July 22, 2026) - A City-run hygiene resource providing free showers and support services to unhoused residents and those facing housing instability has surpassed 1,000 guests served.
Operating out of the Memorial Stadium locker rooms, the Dignity Center provides showers, hygiene kits, clean clothing, and direct connections to social services.
The program launched during the COVID-19 pandemic to address the sudden closure of public facilities. Today, it has evolved into a year-round operation staffed by four employees.
Keith Jones II, director of Human and Community Services for the City, said the center offers a crucial first step toward restoring dignity.
"They'd come in, take a shower, and life began to move," Jones said.
The center serves anyone in need, including those navigating temporary housing crises.
