Safety Tips and Resources for Weekend Arctic Blast

GREELEY, Colo. - The National Weather Service is predicting an arctic air mass will bring bitterly cold air to the area beginning Saturday and lasting through Tuesday morning. The cold front is expected to bring frigid temperatures along with snow.

The City of Greeley has snowplows ready, and emergency services like fire and police will operate as usual.

Expanded Sheltering

The Homeless Solutions team is working with community partners to ensure anyone who wants and needs shelter has access. Two overnight shelters will be open and ready to receive guests in Greeley.

  • Adults (18 and older) can seek shelter at the United Way Cold Weather Shelter at 870 28th Street.

  • Families are welcome at the Guadalupe Center, a warming shelter located at 1442 North 11th Avenue.

In addition to normal operating hours, these shelters will open at noon on Saturday, January 18, and will remain open until Tuesday, January 21, at 3:30 p.m. to provide shelter from the extreme cold. Additional services and transportation assistance will be activated if necessary.

For those seeking assistance, contact the City of Greeley's Outreach Team at 970-351-5005.

Storm Safety Tips: How to Prepare for Bitter Cold

Protect yourself and your home from dangerous winter weather and bitter cold:

  • Avoid unnecessary travel and outdoor activities. If you need to go outside, dress in layers and prepare your vehicle with an emergency kit and supplies.

  • Bring pets inside and move outdoor animals like livestock to sheltered areas.

  • Heat your home safely. Never use an oven or gas stovetop to heat your home.

  • Minimize the risk of frozen pipes: Leave faucets running at a trickle, leave cabinet doors open, and close all doors and windows to keep heat inside.

The City of Greeley's top priority during the storm is the safety of our residents. In an emergency, dial 911 for help.
