Premier Cho Jung-tai on Wednesday received a delegation led by Eto Seishiro, a former member of Japan's House of Representatives and current chairman of the Japan-Taiwan Friendship Association. The premier thanked Chairman Eto for his enduring commitment to fostering Taiwan-Japan ties both during his time as a legislator and his current role as chairman, noting his substantial contributions to advancing bilateral exchanges and cooperation over the years.
Premier Cho highlighted the many similarities between President Lai Ching-te's Five Trusted Industry Sectors and the 17 strategic fields identified by Japanese Prime Minister Takaichi Sanae-proposed in response to international trends and Japan's domestic development needs-and noted the broad scope for collaboration in these areas. This year, the Executive Yuan has also announced its focus on 13 strategic industries, spanning a wide range of sub-fields such as silicon photonics, quantum technologies, AI robotics, drones, biotechnology, medicine, critical minerals, public infrastructure, urban renewal, culture, sports and a trillion-NT-dollar tourism industry, among others. The premier anticipates that their advancement will complement Prime Minister Takaichi's 17 strategic fields and support future cooperation on economic security and supply chain resilience. Through the strong partnership between Taiwan and Japan, both sides can work together to obtain greater development opportunities around the world.
In his remarks, Chairman Eto said that, in today's rapidly changing global landscape, Taiwan's democracy, freedom, human rights and rule of law are not only highly regarded by the international community but also serve as an increasingly important force for peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region. He added that Japan will continue to fully support Taiwan's participation in international organizations, including the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP), World Health Organization (WHO), International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and International Criminal Police Organization (ICPO).
