RENO, Nev. - Governor Joe Lombardo toured areas impacted by the Bug, Fred Mountain, and Stallion wildfires on Tuesday, meeting with local emergency management officials, thanking Nevada National Guard personnel and other first responders, and assessing the community's transition from wildfire response to recovery.
As fire conditions have substantially improved, operations are transitioning from active response to recovery. Governor Lombardo received an operational update from Unified Command leadership before meeting with Washoe County Emergency Management personnel to discuss recovery efforts and the community's remaining needs.
"While the immediate threat from these fires has diminished, our work is far from over," said Governor Lombardo. "I saw firsthand today the damage these fires have caused and the incredible work our first responders have done to protect Nevadans. We are going to stand with this community throughout the recovery process and make sure the state provides the assistance and resources necessary to rebuild and recover."
Governor Lombardo also traveled to the Nevada National Guard Army Aviation Support Facility at Stead to personally thank Nevada National Guard Soldiers and Airmen for their support during the wildfire response.
"The men and women of the Nevada National Guard answered the call when their neighbors needed them most," said Governor Lombardo. "I am grateful for their service, and for every firefighter, law enforcement officer, emergency manager, first responder and volunteer who stepped up to protect lives and communities."
The Governor concluded his tour with an aerial tour of the wildfire footprint aboard a Washoe County Sheriff's Office RAVEN HH-1H Huey. The tour provided an opportunity to assess structural and infrastructure impacts, view affected communities and receive firsthand information on evacuations, law enforcement operations and the transition to recovery operations.
Governor Lombardo emphasized that the state would continue working with local officials and community partners to identify and address remaining needs as residents return and recovery efforts move forward.
"Recovery will take time, but Nevadans are resilient, and we will be there every step of the way," said Governor Lombardo. "The state will continue working alongside Washoe County, local leaders and our federal partners to make sure this community has what it needs to fully recover."
