Bali, 7 April 2026: ERIA participated in the 78th Meeting of the ASEAN Working Group on Intellectual Property Cooperation (AWGIPC), held in Bali on 7 April 2026. The meeting brought together representatives from intellectual property (IP) offices of ASEAN Member States, the ASEAN Secretariat, and dialogue partners, including the Japan Patent Office, to exchange views on ongoing work and strengthen regional collaboration in developing forward-looking IP systems across ASEAN.

During the session, Dr Takayuki Yamanaka, ERIA's Chief Operating Officer, presented updates on the institute's intellectual property projects for Fiscal Year 2025. These included progress and key findings from work on branding strategies, patent examination practices in pharmaceuticals and related technologies, and intellectual property issues in the semiconductor supply chain.

ERIA also introduced upcoming initiatives to support the implementation of the ASEAN Intellectual Property Rights Action Plan 2026-2030, endorsed in December 2025. These efforts aim to strengthen regional collaboration, support practical policy development, and enhance institutional capacity to respond to evolving technological, commercial, and IP-related challenges.

Recognising intellectual property as a key pillar for innovation, economic integration, and sustainable development, ERIA remains committed to supporting ASEAN's continued growth through practical and forward-looking regional initiatives.
