Risch on Ceasefire Agreement Between Israel and Hamas

WASHINGTON - U.S. Senator Jim Risch (R-Idaho), chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, today released the following statement on the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas.

"This ceasefire is very welcome news, and I suspect it is no accident that it has finally come as a result of the involvement of President Trump's team. I am especially glad that a number of hostages will be released from the hands of Hamas terrorists and reunited with their families after over a year of captivity. However, make no mistake, this deal does not mark the end-- we cannot forget the remaining American citizens that must be returned.

"Looking forward, we must ensure that this ceasefire agreement continues to protect Israel's security and prevents Hamas from re-arming and waging another ruthless attack. After all, like its patron Iran, Hamas is not an honest broker, and has continually delayed, disrupted, and reneged on potential deals in the past. Under the leadership of President Trump, the United States will remain vigilant, work tirelessly to bring home American hostages, and continue to stand with our ally Israel no matter what the future holds."
