Free Picnic in the Park Closes Out Park and Recreation Month

Cedar Rapids Parks & Recreation invites the community to a Picnic in the Park this Thursday, July 31, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in Greene Square. The event is part a continuation of City's Summer in the Square series and wraps up Park and Recreation Month with a relaxed, drop-in lunch.

Everyone is welcome to stop by for a free meal - grilled hot dogs, chips, water, and a cookie - while supplies last. Up to 500 lunches will be available. Guests are encouraged to bring a blanket or lawn chair, enjoy a bite to eat in the park, and take a little time to enjoy the park.

"This is our way of saying thank you to the community for supporting Parks & Recreation and all the services we provide throughout the year," said Carrie Mardorf, Cedar Rapids Parks and Recreation Director. "We've spent the month highlighting the power of play, and now we're ending it with something simple and fun - sharing a meal together outside."

Picnic in the Park is hosted by the Cedar Rapids Parks & Recreation Department with support from Kraft Heinz and the Wilson Avenue Hy-Vee.
