On August 10th, around 4:00 a.m., Spokane Police officers responded to the intersection of North Ash St and West Northwest Blvd for a report of a vehicle versus pedestrian collision.
Officers located the pedestrian, who was transported to the hospital with serious injuries. She was released from the hospital later that morning.
Due to the victim's serious injuries, the Major Crimes Unit (MCU) was called out to take over the investigation.
Investigators observed the driver showed signs of impairment at the scene. Laythia M. Warner (19) was arrested and booked into the Spokane County Jail for Vehicular Assault.
There is no excuse for impaired driving. In an age when a safe ride is often just a few taps away on a cell phone, choosing to drive impaired is both unnecessary and potentially devastating. Rideshare services, taxis, public transportation, and a call or text to a friend or family member provide alternatives to putting yourself and others at risk.
A ride home may cost a few dollars or require an inconvenient phone call. Driving impaired can cost someone their life. If you are impaired, put down the keys, pick up your phone, and find another way home.
