The Pentagon today released its monthslong internal watchdog review of Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth's use of Signal to discuss sensitive military operations. Hegseth refused to turn over his phone or be interviewed by the Inspector General for the investigation related to the leak of highly sensitive US military operations in multiple unsecured group chats that included a journalist, posing a serious threat to America's national security and endangering active duty troops.
These messages included material from marked classified documents and offered specific, real-time updates about planned military strikes, including "This is when the first bombs will drop."
In response, DNC Rapid Response Director Kendall Witmer released the following statement:
"Pete Hegseth's incompetence isn't just a disgrace - it's a major national security threat that puts our troops in harm's way. Hegseth's conduct has proved time and again that putting a Fox News host in charge of the world's largest military was one of Donald Trump's most reckless and dangerous decisions."
Despite his attempts to pawn off responsibility for his incompetence, Hegseth leaked sensitive military operations not just once but multiple times. After he shared classified military operations in a Signal group chat that included a journalist, he then shared more sensitive information in a Signal group chat that included his wife, brother, and personal lawyer.
Hegseth also recklessly pushed out three-star general, Lt. Gen. Joe McGee, the director for Strategy, Plans, and Policy on the Joint Staff, because he had "pushed back" against Hegseth over some of his dangerous actions.
