Ukraine today stands not only at the forefront of the defence of freedom but also of military industry innovation, said Prime Minister Inga Ruginienė. Therefore, Lithuania, our region, and the whole of Europe have much to learn from Ukraine.
During her visit to Kyiv, I. Ruginienė met with the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada, Ruslan Stefanchuk, and, together with Ukraine's Minister of Defence, Denys Shmyhal, greeted participants of the Defence Innovations Forum exhibition.
In her meetings, I. Ruginienė emphasised the inseparability of Ukraine's and Europe's security and the lessons drawn from the war in Ukraine, as well as Lithuania's readiness to jointly develop the most relevant defence industry capabilities for both countries.
"Ukraine has shown how, despite the war, it is possible to shorten the path of defence innovations from idea to battlefield-proven product. We see the great importance of drones and counter-drone measures, and Ukraine's striving for excellence in this field. By combining these capabilities, resources, and experience, we would strengthen the indivisible security of Ukraine and the rest of Europe," said I. Ruginienė.
The meetings also addressed the most pressing support needs for Ukraine and the country's progress towards European integration.
Prime Minister I. Ruginienė also visited the centre of the Ukrainian non-governmental organisation Save Ukraine, which provides psychological rehabilitation and reintegration programmes for Ukrainian children and their parents who have been returned from Russia. During the visit, she met with the children and staff and learned more about the organisation's activities.
