435th correspondence session of the Government of the Republic of Slovenia

Since the onset of tensions in global energy markets, the Government has been closely monitoring developments and has taken measures to ensure that fuel storage facilities remain adequately stocked. However, developments over the past two days have required the Government to intervene more directly in the logistics infrastructure. The Government has therefore adopted measures to enable fuel distributors to resupply service stations more efficiently.

Based on reports and meetings held today, it has become clear that Petrol is facing the most significant challenges in delivering fuel to its service stations. Following discussions involving ministers, representatives of road haulage operators, MOL Group, Petrol and other government services, the Government has decided as follows:

  • The Government has activated the Slovenian Armed Forces; as an exceptional measure, additional transport capacity will be deployed, meaning that the Slovenian Armed Forces will assist in supply operations, and their personnel will also be available for fuel transport.
  • Drawing on the positive experience of MOL Group, the Government has introduced a general limit on fuel purchases, allowing up to 50 litres per day for natural persons and up to 200 litres per day for legal persons and natural persons carrying out business activities, including those engaged in agricultural activities. The measure will take effect at midnight.
  • The Government has called on all distributors to coordinate deliveries from storage facilities to service stations in order to minimise delivery times and speed up fuel supply.
  • The Government notes that exceptional circumstances have arisen in the railway transport sector due to disruptions in fuel supply, causing significant disruptions to logistics flows, the transport sector, and the wider economy. It authorises the Minister of Infrastructure to take the necessary measures to manage these circumstances and to ensure the uninterrupted supply of fuel to the country, in particular by prioritising trains transporting fuel for the domestic market.

There is sufficient fuel in Slovenia; storage facilities are full and there will be no shortage of fuel.
