VICTORY: Wisconsin Senate Flips to Gun Safety Majority

Everytown Spent $10 Million to Elect Moms Demand Action Volunteers, Flip State Legislative Chambers, and Build Trifectas in Key Battleground States

WASHINGTON - Everytown for Gun Safety Action Fund and its grassroots networks, Moms Demand Action and Students Demand Action, declared a major victory today as voters flipped the Wisconsin Senate to a gun safety majority, establishing a gun safety trifecta.

"For years, the Wisconsin Senate was where gun safety bills went to die - but that era is over," said John Feinblatt, president of Everytown for Gun Safety. "A new majority means life-saving legislation that never got a hearing will finally get a vote, and Everytown is eager to work with them to keep Wisconsin safe."

"Wisconsin volunteers made the case for gun safety in every race that would decide who runs the state Senate," said Angela Ferrell-Zabala, executive director of Moms Demand Action. "Now that work pays off with a Senate that can finally move gun safety forward, and our movement will be in Madison in January ready to help this majority deliver."

"For too long, the state Senate stood between Wisconsin families and the common-sense gun safety protections we've been asking for," said Nora Hart, a volunteer with the Wisconsin chapter of Students Demand Action. "This fall, volunteers across the state set out to change that, and we did. We're proud of every neighbor who showed up, and now the work of passing lifesaving laws begins."

Everytown's top state-level goal this cycle was building trifectas: establishing gun safety majorities in both legislative chambers alongside a gun safety champion in the governor's office. Across Arizona, Michigan, Minnesota, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin, Everytown for Gun Safety Action Fund, Everytown for Gun Safety Victory Fund, and Everytown for Gun Safety VF MN invested $10 million, running paid media campaigns supporting Moms Demand Action volunteers in key state legislative battleground districts and partnering with the Democratic Governors Association to elect gun safety governors in those states. Moms Demand Action and Students Demand Action volunteers made more than 15 million voter contacts in support of gun sense candidates up and down the ballot.

These candidates were among 547 Moms Demand Action volunteers who ran for offices up and down the ballot across 47 states this cycle, including more than 40 who ran for Congress. Many were trained through Demand a Seat, which Everytown for Gun Safety Victory Fund launched in 2021 to train grassroots volunteers and gun violence survivors to run for office. The program has trained more than 1,600 volunteers across 49 states and Washington, D.C. Since 2021, more than 600 former volunteers have been elected, including six who were already serving in Congress before this election.
