Governor Whitmer Signs Bipartisan Legislation into Law

LANSING, Mich. -Today, Governor Gretchen Whitmer signed two bipartisan bills to honor Michiganders. The first formally recognizes May as Chaldean American Month, and the second dedicates a portion of highway to Master Sergeant Gregory Kuhse, who lost his life in the line of duty.

"I'm proud to sign these two bipartisan bills honoring the contributions and service of Michiganders," said Governor Gretchen Whitmer. "Chaldean Americans have made a valuable impact on Michigan, and designating May as 'Chaldean American Month' lets us honor their contributions to our state. I'm also honored to designate a portion of US-131 as 'Master Sergeant Gregory T. Kuhse Memorial Highway' to recognize the outstanding service and sacrifice of U.S. Air Force Master Sergeant Gregory Kuhse. His devotion to his family and his country represents the very best of our state. I hope that his memory will continue to be an inspiration for all Michiganders."

House Bill 4303, sponsored by state Representative Tom Kuhn (R-Troy), designates May as Chaldean American Month, recognizing the contributions of Chaldean, Assyrian, and Syriac Michiganders.

Senate Bill 274, sponsored by state Senator Sean McCann (D-Kalamazoo), names a portion of highway US-131 as "Master Sergeant Gregory T. Kuhse Memorial Highway," honoring the life and service of Master Sergeant Gregory Kuhse of the United States Air Force. Kuhse, a Kalamazoo native, lost his life during Operation Freedom's Sentinel in 2015.
